How I Approach Sessions
My approach is rooted in psychodynamic and attachment-based therapy. Together, we explore how your past experiences, relationships, and patterns influence the way you are today.
I have spent 10 years working with people who have spent their whole lives (or close to it) taking care of others, pushing through, and wondering why they still feel anxious and overwhelmed. My goal is to help you look beyond the surface and really understand where the patterns come from and what they are trying to protect.
I integrate approaches including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), parts work, and somatic interventions. We’ll use these approaches to work toward a life where you can stop and think before automatically saying yes, understand your choices, and stop looking back wondering, “Why did I do that?” or “Why did I agree to something I didn’t even want?”
So, what do all these words mean?
I'm so glad you're curious! If at any time you have questions, feel free to ask! I love providing education on what I do.
Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT)
Rather than trying to get rid of difficult thoughts and emotions, ACT helps you respond to them differently. We will identify what your values are and figure out how to incorporate them into daily life so you can live your life for you.
Psychodynamic
Sometimes our current struggles make a lot more sense once we understand where they came from. We'll explore the experiences, relationships, and beliefs that continue to influence how you think, feel, and respond today.
Attachment-based
The relationships we have early in life shape how we see ourselves and connect with others. Exploring these patterns, you can begin to understand why boundaries feel so hard, conflict feels so threatening, or you constantly feel responsible for everyone else.
Parts work (IFS informed)
We all have different parts of ourselves: the part that wants to set a boundary, the part that feels guilty, the part that wants to keep everyone happy. Rather than judging those parts, we'll get curious about what they're trying to protect.
Somatic informed
Stress shows up in our bodies. As difficult as it is, being in tune with your body does a lot. It helps us better understand our emotions, calm your nervous system, and recognize when you're slipping into survival mode.
